Please complete this field plot treatment form, along with an exhibitor booking form to request a field plot exhibitor space at Potatoes in Practice 2025.

Please select which type of field plot you have booked and whether you need additional space for a field marquee. Please note that changes to harvesting options will not be accepted unless authorised by The James Hutton Institute at time of booking. 

Charges may be incurred for additional requirements and will be invoiced post event.  

Fields marked * are mandatory. 

 

A separate field treatment form must be completed for each plot requested.

Please confirm that all planting material is Scottish classified seed. All planting material other than standard variety must be supplied by organisation responsible for demonstration plot. Otherwise, special arrangements may be possible upon request. Please specify your varieties below.

Soil Analysis Required
Please indicate if you require a soil analysis of your demonstration plot to determine any pre-planting applications. This might incur an additional charge.

Inputs

Please indicate if you want standard inputs on your field plot as outlined. If not, please enter specific instructions in the box below each treatment option. Changes or additions may incur additional costs.

Important: Please note that if you provide the chemicals for Hutton staff to apply on your behalf, product label / instructions for applicaiton and MSDS must be supplied for each product / chemical, otherwise they will not be accepted or applied. This is essential for Hutton obligations regrading COSHH assessments. Chemicals must be collected after the event as additional costs will be incurred for disposal.

Standard fertiliser treatment
Standard treatment: Within NVZ, assuming 60-90 days ware and haulm longevity group 2 (Maris Piper), up to 150 kgN/ha may be applied.
  • Standard Fertiliser Treatment for Agronomy plots is 147 kg/ha of Nitrogen, 147 kg/ha of Phosphate, 293 kg/ha of Potash;
  • Standard Treatment for Breeding plots is 90kg/ha of Nitrogen, 90kg/ha of Phosphate,135 kg/ha of Potash

Standard herbicide treatment
Standard treatment: Residual herbicide will be applied before crop emergence; any emerged weeds will be burnt off with a contact herbicide prior to crop emergence. Using products with actives as stated: aclonifen 1.75 l/ha; prosulfocarb 3.0l/ha; pendimethalin 2.0 l/ha; carfentrazone-ethyl 0.33 l/ha

Standard haulm destruction
Standard treatment: pyraflufen-ethyl and carfentrazone-ethyl products will be used.

Standard Potato Cyst Nematode (PCN) treatment
Standard treatment: Where PCN is present, nematicide will be incorporated pre-planting

Standard blight and aphid controls
  • Blight control: Protectant sprays to start as soon as crop emerges and continue according to the Hutton Criteria, i.e. where two consecutive days have a minimum temp of 10°C AND at least six hours with a relative humidity ≥ 90%
  • Aphid control: Triggered by aphid flight alerts (combined with fungicide applications). Non-pyrethroid type used at first Peach Potato Aphid alert.

Be aware, all plots must have a recognised blight protection protocol applied throughout the season. We retain the right to apply additional fungicides as necessary to protect the rest of the site, our seed and ware breeding programmes and neighbouring growers from late blight epidemics.
